Allu Arjun has been granted regular bail by the Nampally Court in Hyderabad in connection with a stampede that occurred at Sandhya Theatre on December 4, 2024, during a special screening of Pushpa 2: The Rule. The stampede tragically resulted in the death of a 35-year-old woman, Revathi, and left her eight-year-old son critically injured. The incident occurred as a large crowd gathered outside the theatre to see the actor, who had arrived with music director Devi Sri Prasad for the premiere. The crowd surged forward in an attempt to catch a glimpse of the actor, leading to a stampede-like situation.
Following the tragic incident, Allu Arjun was arrested on December 13, 2024, and charged under sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous means) of the Indian Penal Code. Arjun was released on interim bail the following day. On January 3, 2025, the Hyderabad court granted him regular bail, with the condition that he furnish two sureties of Rs 50,000 each. Additionally, the court noted that a quash petition regarding the case will be heard in the High Court on January 21, 2025.
The family of the deceased woman has been offered compensation by Allu Arjun, Mythri Movies, and the makers of Pushpa 2. Allu Arjun personally donated Rs 1 crore, while Mythri Movies and director Sukumar each contributed Rs 50 lakh, totaling Rs 2 crore in compensation. The compensation was handed over to the victim's family by Dil Raju, a prominent film producer and chairperson of the Telangana Film Development Corporation.
The ongoing investigation is examining the actions of Allu Arjun, his security team, and the management of Sandhya Theatre. The police have also registered a case against the individuals involved, and further questioning is being conducted. The child, who was critically injured in the stampede, was initially unconscious for over 20 days and remains in the intensive care unit at a private hospital. The investigation continues as authorities work to determine the exact cause of the tragedy and the role played by all parties involved.
